Who we are:

Matthew A. Yanni, CFA, CFP® has approximately 15 years of professional experience in the investment business. He spent the first three years of his investment career in research related roles. These responsibilities provided him an excellent opportunity to perform research studies on individual companies, mutual funds and macro-economic issues. He was subsequently promoted based on both his outstanding research work and superior interpersonal skills to be an Investment Advisor. In this role, for the next seven years he directly managed clients’ assets approximating $250 million and was responsible for over 80 different relationships.

Matthew's responsibilities required interfacing with numerous sophisticated corporate executives, wealthy families and high profile clients.  These clients were located in many states across America.  His relationship with these clients became so close that he was frequently treated as a trusted member of the family and invited to family functions as weddings, birthdays and other celebrations.

Prior to his full-time work experience, Matthew interned every summer past high school at a family owned investment consulting firm (Yanni Partners Investment Consulting).  He has never changed professions and has devoted his entire career to the investment industry.

Matthew’s education and qualifications are outstanding among his peers:

1992 Graduate of North Allegheny High School
1996 B.A. in Economics from Allegheny College
1997 M.B.A. in Finance from the University of Pittsburgh
2000 Earned the Chartered Financial Analyst Designation (CFA) – www.cfainstitute.org
2003 Earned the Certified Financial Planner Designation (CFP®) – www.cfp.net

The CFA designation is a three level examination that focuses on many different subjects including:
1. Ethical and Professional Standards2. Quantitative Methods
3. Economics
4. Financial Reporting & Analysis
5. Corporate Finance
6. Equity Investments
7. Fixed Income Investments
8. Derivatives
9. Alternative Investments
10. Portfolio Management & Wealth Planning

At the time Matthew passed the CFA designation, each of the three levels were only offered once per year and had an approximate 60% pass rate associated with them. Matthew passed each level on his first attempt.

Directly from the www.cfainstitute.org website - “The Economist ranked the CFA Program as the gold standard among investment analysis designations”

The CFP designation is a five part exam with a comprehensive cumulative final exam at the end. Having the CFA designation, Matthew was exempt from taking the five parts and was just able to sit for the cumulative exam. The CFP exam tests on the following subjects:
1. General Principals of Financial Planning including Ethics
2. Insurance Planning & Risk Management
3. Employee Benefits Planning
4. Investment Planning
5. Income Tax Planning
6. Retirement Planning
7. Estate Planning

The CFP designation also requires a minimum of three years of work experience in the delivery of the financial planning process to the client.  Also, the CFP designation requires 30 hours of continuing education reported every two years (with at least two of those hours qualifying in the ethics program).

Most industry professionals would consider the CFA & CFP designations to be two of the most comprehensive investment and financial planning post graduate designations.
